Darood Lakhi or Darood-e-Lakhi, known as the Thousand-Fold Salutation is a prayer on the Prophet ﷺ that is ascribed to the ruler, Sultan Mahmood Ghaznavi. Sultan Mahmood would recite a thousand salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ every morning and night with utmost humility and sincerity. As he would spend much of his time in worship, some parts of his sultanate suffered as a result of negligence. One night he went to sleep, and he saw the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in his dream. The Prophet ﷺ taught this prayer to the Sultan and told him to recite it after the Fajr prayer, the reward of which would be equivalent to a thousand salutations.
