Salāmun ʿalā qabrin yuzāru mina l-buʿdi
Salāmun ʿalā r-Rawḍa wa fīhā Muḥammadin
      1. Peace and greetings to a grave that is visited from afar.
Peace be upon the Garden wherein lies Muhammad.
Salāmun ʿalā man zāra fi l-layli Rabbahu
      Fa-ballaghahu l-marghūba fī kulli maqṣadin
      2. Peace upon him who in the night visited his Lord,
Who granted him attainment of his desire in all he aspired to.
Salāmun ʿalā man qāla li-ḍ-ḍabbi man anā
      Fa-qāla Rasūlu Llāhi anta Muḥammadin
      3. Peace be upon him who asked a lizard, “Who am I?"
And it replied, “The Emissary of Allah. You are Muhammad."
Salāmun ʿalā l-madfūni fī arḍi Ṭaybata
      Wa man khaṣṣahu r-Raḥmānu bi-l-faḍli wa l-majdi
      4. Peace upon the one buried in the land of Tayba (Madina).
      And whom the All-Merciful singled out for pre-eminence and glory;
      نَبِيٌّ حَبَاهُ اللهُ بِالْحُسْنِ وَالْبَهَا
      فَطُوبَىٰ لِعَبْدٍ زَارَ قَبْرَ مُحَمَّدٍ
Nabiyyun ḥabāhu Llāhu bi-l-ḥusni wa l-bahā
      Fa-ṭubā li-ʿabdin zāra qabra Muḥammadin
      5. A Prophet whom Allah granted beauty and splendour.
Blessed, then, is any servant [of Allah] who visits the grave of Muhammad.
      Ayā rākiban naḥwa l-Madīnati qāṣidan
      Fa-balligh salāmī li-l-ḥabībi Muḥammadin
      6. O you who are riding straight ahead towards Madina,
Convey my greetings to the Beloved Muhammad.
Fī Rawḍatihi l-ḥusnā munāya wa bughyatī
Wa fīhā shifā qalbī wa rūḥī wa rāḥatī
      7. Within his most lovely Garden is my sole desire and goal,
Therein lies the remedy for my heart and soul, and therein my comfort.
Fa-in baʿudat ʿannī wa ʿazza mazāruhā
      Fa-timthāluhā ladayya aḥsanu ṣūratin
      8. For although it is far from me and difficult to visit,
The picture of it in my mind’s eye is the loveliest of forms.
Unazzihu ṭarfa l-ʿayni fī ḥusni rawḍihā
Fa-yaslū bihā lubbī wa sirrī wa muhjatī
      9. I cleanse my eyesight by picturing the beauty of its gardens,
So that my mind, being and inmost soul find solace.
Fa-hā anā yā Quṭba l-ʿAwālimi kullihā
      Uqabbiluhā shawqan li-ishfā'i ʿillatī
      10. So here I am, O Axis of the entire Universe!
I place my lips on it in yearning, to have my ailment healed.
Wa ṣalli ʿalā Quṭbi l-wujūdi Muḥammadin
Ṣalātan bihā tamḥū ʿannā kulla zallatin
      11. Send prayers upon the Centre of all creation, Muhammad,
Prayers through which all our shortcomings are effaced.
Lā ilāha illa Llāh Lā ilāha illa Llāh
Lā ilāha illa Llāh Muḥammad Rasūlu Llāh
      12. There is no god but Allah. There is no god but Allah.
There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the Emissary of Allah.
